Why Wash Testing Matters

A transfer can look perfect immediately after pressing and still fail later.

Testing helps identify:

โœ” adhesion issues
โœ” cure problems
โœ” fabric compatibility issues
โœ” dye migration
โœ” wash durability concerns

Large production orders should always be tested before full production begins.

Step 1: Press A Test Garment

Before testing:

Use production settings:

โœ” normal pressure
โœ” correct temperature
โœ” recommended dwell time
โœ” proper peel process

Do not change settings during testing.

Step 2: Initial Inspection

Immediately after pressing:

Check:

โœ” edges lifting
โœ” texture consistency
โœ” full adhesion
โœ” appearance

Stretch garment lightly.

Watch for:

  • cracking
  • separation
  • weak areas

Step 3: Wash Test

Recommended:

Wash:

โœ” cold water
โœ” normal detergent
โœ” turn garment inside out

Avoid:

โœ˜ bleach
โœ˜ fabric softener
โœ˜ extreme heat

Initial recommendation:

5 wash cycles minimum

For demanding production:

10โ€“20 wash cycles

Step 4: Stretch Test

Check:

Cracking

Light stretch:

Normal:

small movement

Not normal:

large visible separation

Adhesion

Inspect:

  • corners
  • edges
  • fine detail areas

Step 5: Test Different Garments

Different materials behave differently:

Cotton

Usually easiest

Polyester

Watch for:

  • dye migration
  • heat sensitivity

Tri-blends

Test stretch recovery

Performance fabrics

May require additional testing
