Why Wash Testing Matters

A transfer can look perfect immediately after pressing and still fail later.

Testing helps identify:

✔ adhesion issues
✔ cure problems
✔ fabric compatibility issues
✔ dye migration
✔ wash durability concerns

Large production orders should always be tested before full production begins.

Step 1: Press A Test Garment

Before testing:

Use production settings:

✔ normal pressure
✔ correct temperature
✔ recommended dwell time
✔ proper peel process

Do not change settings during testing.

Step 2: Initial Inspection

Immediately after pressing:

Check:

✔ edges lifting
✔ texture consistency
✔ full adhesion
✔ appearance

Stretch garment lightly.

Watch for:

  • cracking
  • separation
  • weak areas

Step 3: Wash Test

Recommended:

Wash:

✔ cold water
✔ normal detergent
✔ turn garment inside out

Avoid:

✘ bleach
✘ fabric softener
✘ extreme heat

Initial recommendation:

5 wash cycles minimum

For demanding production:

10–20 wash cycles

Step 4: Stretch Test

Check:

Cracking

Light stretch:

Normal:

small movement

Not normal:

large visible separation

Adhesion

Inspect:

  • corners
  • edges
  • fine detail areas

Step 5: Test Different Garments

Different materials behave differently:

Cotton

Usually easiest

Polyester

Watch for:

  • dye migration
  • heat sensitivity

Tri-blends

Test stretch recovery

Performance fabrics

May require additional testing
