Basic DTF Powder Application

  1. Print the artwork in mirror image onto the coated side of compatible DTF film.
  2. Apply the powder while the printed white ink is still wet.
  3. Cover the entire printed ink area evenly.
  4. Remove all loose powder from the unprinted portions of the film.
  5. Cure the powdered transfer until the adhesive has melted into a smooth, consistent layer.
  6. Allow the transfer to stabilize before handling or stacking.
  7. Pre-press the garment to remove moisture and flatten the application area.
  8. Apply the transfer using the correct time, temperature and pressure for the complete system.
  9. Peel the carrier according to the DTF film instructions.

Apply Powder Immediately

DTF powder needs to attach to wet printed ink. Delaying powder application can result in thin, incomplete or inconsistent coverage.

Remove Loose Powder

Powder should remain on the printed ink—not across the open areas of the film. Loose powder can create unwanted adhesive specks, rough edges and marks around the finished artwork.

Evaluate the Entire System

If a transfer fails, do not automatically blame the powder. Film coating, white ink deposit, powder coverage, curing, garment preparation, heat press calibration, pressure, peel method and finishing press can all affect the result.

Do Not Rely on Temperature Alone

A dryer display indicates the equipment setting, not necessarily the actual temperature or energy reaching the adhesive. Airflow, belt speed, heater distance, transfer size and ink volume can change the curing result.

Keep Powder Away From the Printer

Airborne adhesive powder can enter fans, sensors, electronics, rails and other printer components. Apply and remove powder in a separate area or inside a properly designed powder shaker system.

Can unused powder be reused?
